Dr. David Samadi penned an article this year that featured Mitt Romney who, last summer, announced that he had received prostate surgery for a tumor that was slowly growing inside of him. It was postulated that Romney might be working up to make a run at the U.S. Senate in Utah, which will soon be left open by Orrin Hatch. Dr. Thomas Ahlering from UC Irvine Hospital completed the successful surgery and Romney’s diagnosis looked good after the procedure for a disease that will be effecting at least 164,690 people in 2018. The facts are that
Mitt Romney is not the only politician to have ever undergone successful surgery for prostate cancer, and he joins the likes of former Secretary of State Colin Powell as well as john Kerry who both have been treated after being diagnosed with the disease. Dr. David Samadi, himself, always talks about the options that his patients have with them once he discovers that they have prostate cancer. He has revealed that if the cancer has not spread beyond the prostate gland that he usually recommends surgery over radiation. He cited discoveries that localized prostate cancer responds better to surgery than radiation treatment for his recommendations. He also pointed out that radiation treatment leads to two times the amount of deaths as surgery does and that, at best, people who receive radiation treatment are 150% more likely to pass away before men who had their prostate cancer treated with surgery. Dr. Samadi also revealed that radiation treatment can lead to people getting cancer in other areas of their body. To know more about him click here.
Dr. David Samadi also seeks to enlighten men about the fact that localized cancer in the prostate can be treated by removing the prostate, altogether. This gives men close to a %100 survival rate compared to the %30 chance they have when they choose to go for radiation treatment after the cancer has spread outside of the prostate. He also recommends that men should always seek to learn about their surgeons experience with prostate cancer and how many successful surgeries they have performed before committing to having them perform their surgery.
Dr. David Samadi is known to some as the celebrity doctor and to many others as a compassionate doctor who treats all of his patients like family. He is the Chief of Robotic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital as well as the Chairman of Urology who uses robotic surgery to successfully treat many of his well-cared-for patients.
